1. Define what counts as a defect
Use the approved specification and identified sample to define defects. Explain their severity with relevant examples: dimensions, construction, finish, stone setting, sharp edges, branding or packaging. Required safety or legal checks may need separate treatment.
2. Agree a sampling plan
Identify the lot, its size, the agreed standard and inspection level, and the AQL values for the relevant defect classes. Derive sample size and acceptance/rejection counts from the selected plan. Do not borrow arbitrary numbers from another order.
Sampling gives a defined acceptance decision for the inspected lot. It does not prove every item is defect-free or replace required product testing.
3. Save results and failure actions
Keep the lot identity, sampling record, observed defects and decision with the project. Agree responsibility for sorting, rework, replacement or reinspection as appropriate. Track any new approved reference and revised production basis.
